Today it's Easter. Happy Easter dear reader! I didn't know what to say to you today, so I decided to remember last summer I was in Wales and took a picture of the churchyard after the service. "Soare si nori imbracati in purpura si vise de nebun". It's Good Friday, bank holiday for the UK, and I am terribly happy. Why this dark picture? Maybe because of the clouds. I love clouds, I like to see them, but in the same time I like sunny weather. Do I really have to make up my mind? Hope not. Contrasts are nice and they offer a path to progress. Too deep into thoughts today, better have a walk outside and maybe take some pictures.

A "Beautiful" combination of architecture styles. Between a 1930s nice building and another 1950s (I guess), there is an ugly 1990s elevavor and two towers and lots of glass and lights and... It doesn't fit in there. My opinion. This is Aston University in Birmingham. ;)

1st of March is the celebration of spring almost everywhere in the northen hemisphere. For Romanian people, the first day of spring comes together with a special name, Martisor. It is known that God of Mars was celebrated in ancient Rome as a symbol of revival, green fields, flocks and love. And because Romanian people has Roman roots, we also celebrate Mars on the first day of the spring. Each spring, we offer the Martisor (a little Amulet, tied with red-and-white thread) to the ones we love, especially women. Yesterday we had a lot of snow. Unfortunately, the temperature of the ground is above freezing point, so the snow doesn't fall out at all. It has been snowing the whole day yesterday, last night as well, and today. In fact, it's snowing from time to time, but if you look through the window from time to time you have the impression that it is snowing every minute.I like it, although it's different from what I've experienced in the past. But life is full of surprises, don't you think?

Oh, what a day! Spending some time in Birmingham, especially in the Aston University area, I caught this fountain in a picture. Former fountain, now some sort of a machine moved by water force. Those two corns you can see at the top end of the fountain pour water into those two pieces of metal which look like chutes. In fact, they are three, but the third one is hidden.They move rhythmically ten times per minute, I guess, but the impression you have when you look at it is something I cannot describe. I had a feeling that I was in front of "the engine of life", which thing is strange, because I cannot imagine life in a piece of metal. Feelings... :)) Behind the fountain you can see Aston Business School.

The Punch House is the place where there are rooms for punchers. I punch you with sausages (erm... is that possible?), you punch me with a roller (that's not fair!) and in the end we together go to the publican and ask for some punch to drink!! Although this house is very, very old (was built at the beginning of the 20th century), I do like it a lot. The Llandegfedd Reservoir, somewhere in the south-east Wales. There is some sort of a pipe, and the water spouts and gives you the impression of a flower. That small blue point in the middle of the flower is the pipe diameter.

Welsh Love Spoons. A wonderful way to say "I love you" in wood. They have different shapes, motifs, colours, but those things mean something. I like the first one on the left side (upper row) and those with dragons. This picture was taken in the Abergavenny Market.

The Romanian Astronomical Observatory, Bucharest. A cold February afternnon. But in that cold old building, there is a wonderful piece of precision and history: the telescope. The guide told us the lenses have been made by Carl Zeiss. And the same company make, today, the finest digital lenses for cameras. The telescope is more than 100 years old but, unfortunately, the building is in the very poor state. Let's hope somebody, someday, is going to give them some money to rebuild everything. Sad.

A cosy little pub in Hay-on-Wye. I liked very much the way they put together old and new. Old musical instruments and new... lights. Old style furniture and new technology for coffee. I would like to go back there, but not to buy so many books from all the bookshops there ;)

Here is a mechanical calculator. Cannot find so many informations about it, because it's old and, besides, it's German. But this is the kinda machine my father-in-law used to calculate when he wrote his PhD thesis, sometimes after the second World War. Wunderbar! :)
